Reason #0 : Life- Intelligent life to be precise.

 Intelligent life: Miracle or Accident?

Fermi’s paradox- There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere.
In the vast timeline of eternity since time began, intelligent life started just a couple of million years ago.

Timeline of the Big Bang.
It’s astonishing that it took us  14 billion years since “The Beginning” to form life, evolve into conscious cognitive creatures with super complex nervous systems and be where we are right now.

First of all, the odds of an intelligent life springing up and continuing to exist anywhere in the universe is unfathomable .

Of all the possible multiverses, and at least 200 billion galaxies, a billion trillion solar systems, and all the innumerable planets that are in this universe, we get to LIVE, breathe, and exist in a tiny blue dot called Earth.

But, here’s the catch:

Many things could have gone wrong for intelligent life to never have happened in the first place. Like large asteroids striking the earth and rendered the dinosaurs extinct.

In addition to natural calamities like floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions,

diseases and plagues have the potential for wiping out the entire life on earth.

Furthermore, human-induced reasons such as an evil genius trying to destroy the world with nuclear weapons, biological terrorism or a planned genocide like that of Hitler’s.

A mad scientist trying to destroy the world.

There could have been a trillion things gone wrong in those billions of years for us to never have existed or gone extinct.

YETin spite of all the odds, stacked up against intelligent life, we came to be, and exist here and now.

Awesome, isn’t it?

Seems like everything was just “an accident”. But the probability of it being accidental can be likened to the event of a jug of milk spilling over and forming a shape that resembles the world map. Whether you believe in God or not, the fact remains and we do have a reason to be grateful at the end of the day.

Finally, more than 99 percent of all species, amounting to over five billion species, that ever lived on Earth are estimated to be extinct.

It’s a lonely, eerie universe

The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) has several radio telescopes that are dedicated to listening out for signals from alternative life forms. But we haven’t found any promising signs of intelligent life anywhere else in the universe.

Stephen Hawking warns that even if we have intelligent alternative life forms, they may not be kind to us. As if the World Wars weren’t enough, imagine having to undergo “Star Wars” and intergalactic warfare.

Imagine waking up to fight these for the rest of your life. Feeling grateful already?
